Comprehensive Eye Exams

An eye exam with Dr. Barnhart is an exceptional assessment of eye health that has two parts. The first part appraises the visual status of your eyes and detects a wide range of problems that can affect your vision such as blur or discomfort. The second part of the exam is designed to determine internal and external ocular health.

The eye is the only place in the body we can see blood vessels without cutting, and actually tells us something about overall health and systemic health. For example, high blood pressure and diabetes can be seen in the back of the eye. Early detection is also key in effectively treating eye disorders such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and more. The American Optometric Association recommends an exam every one to two years, and yearly after the age of 50.

Infant and Pediatric Eye Care

When is a child old enough for an eye exam? The age of 6 months is not too soon! At that age Dr. Barnhart can check for any unusual eye conditions such as tumors or cataracts. As well, focusing and eye coordination along with excessive nearsightedness or farsightedness can be detected so early therapy can begin, preventing more problems down the road.

Dr. Barnhart also recommends that infants be brought back for a follow up exam at 18 months and then again around 4 years old, before starting school. Her special understanding of infant and pediatric eye care gives your child the care they need from the beginning of their lives and throughout their youth.

Contact Lens Success Program

Have you been told you couldn’t wear contacts? Do you wear contacts already, but have never been really satisfied? Quite a bit goes into successfully fitting contact lenses including visual status, the condition of your eyes, how you use your eyes during the day and evening and contact lens materials, just to name a few. Dr. Barnhart has extensive experience with difficult fits and many different types of lenses. That, together with education and on-going coaching will make the Contact Lens Success Program work for you!

If you have any problems, we will credit the cost of the original lenses either towards a more sophisticated lens design, or if you don't wish to try another lens, we credit the cost of the lenses towards eyewear.

If, after 90 days, you are unhappy for any reason, you will receive a credit or refund of your lens investment.

Orthokeratology

Health and Nutrition Counseling

Dr. Barnhart is dedicated to empowering you with the information you need to restore, maintain and enhance your vision and overall health. She will share her experience with you about good nutrition, particularly for the eye, UV protection, and proper supplements as well as an overview of the structure and anatomy of the eye. In addition, if you are a computer user, Dr. Barnhart will review with you the best protocols for computer use for your overall health and for reduction of eye strain.
